Lip plastic surgery is a cosmetic procedure aimed at altering the appearance of the lips. There are several types of lip surgery:
Lip Lift: The doctor lifts and corrects the edges of the lips (commissures) to create a more youthful and cheerful facial appearance.
Excess Skin Removal: This type of surgery is used when there is a need to remove excess skin from the lips, for example, after significant weight loss or as a part of the aging process.
Lipofilling of Lips: This procedure involves injecting fat taken from another part of the patient’s body into the lips to increase their volume. It’s a more natural way to enhance the lips since the patient’s own fat is used.
Lip Shape Modification: Using tiny, precise incisions, the surgeon removes small portions of tissue to reshape the lips, such as turning up the corners of the lips, raising the Cupid’s bow, and so on.
This surgery provides an excellent and long-term alternative compared to traditional fillers. Additionally, the surgeon can significantly alter the lip’s shape or remove excess skin, which is not achievable with regular injections.
It is common for this surgery to be combined with other procedures such as a brow lift or liposuction.

Why do patients consider lip plastic surgery?
Patients may consider lip plastic surgery for various reasons, including:
Enhancing Appearance: Many people opt for lip plastic surgery to improve their appearance. They may desire fuller, more symmetrical, or well-defined lips, which are often seen as a sign of youth and beauty.
Volume Restoration: Lips can naturally lose volume with age, appearing thinner. Lip plastic surgery can help restore this volume, giving a more youthful and fresh look.
Correction of Asymmetry: Some individuals have natural lip asymmetry or other irregularities that they want to correct to enhance their smile and overall facial appearance.
Boosting Confidence: Dissatisfaction with one’s lips can impact self-esteem and confidence. Lip plastic surgery can help individuals feel more attractive and self-assured.
Fashion Trends: In some cases, the decision to undergo lip plastic surgery may be influenced by current fashion trends and a desire to resemble celebrities who have naturally plump or enhanced lips.
Recovery After Trauma or Surgery: Lip plastic surgery can be used to restore lip shape and function after injuries or surgical interventions affecting the mouth area.
Who is a suitable candidate for lip plastic surgery?
Candidates for lip plastic surgery typically meet the following criteria:
-
Adult Age: An ideal candidate should be an adult and fully developed in terms of physiological growth, usually meaning over 18 years of age.
-
Good Physical Health: Candidates should be in good physical health, free from serious illnesses or conditions that could increase the risk of complications during or after surgery.
-
No Surgical Contradictions: There should be no medical contraindications, such as serious heart problems, blood clotting disorders, or uncontrolled diabetes, that would prevent surgery.
-
Realistic Expectations: It is important for candidates to have realistic expectations regarding the results of the surgery and understand that lip plastic surgery can enhance their appearance but will not change their life overall.
-
No Active Infections or Inflammations in the Lip Area: Patients should not have active infections, such as herpes, or other inflammatory conditions in the lip area during surgery.
-
Psychological Stability: Good mental health and psychological stability are important for making an informed decision about surgical intervention.
-
No Smoking or Willingness to Quit Smoking: Smoking can negatively impact the healing process and increase the risk of complications, so candidates should either be non-smokers or willing to quit smoking before surgery and during recovery.
-
Specific Aesthetic Desires or Needs: The desire to improve the appearance of the lips, whether it’s increasing their volume, changing their shape, or correcting asymmetry.
Why South Korea?
South Korea annually performs more cosmetic procedures and surgeries than anywhere else in the world. Local doctors are considered the most educated and competitive globally because only 0.01% of medical school graduates can become plastic surgeons here. Korea’s medical equipment and facilities are on par with those in the USA and Germany, placing it in the top 3 countries with the best technical equipment in clinics.
All surgeries are performed in accredited clinics authorized to work with foreign patients and have in-house anesthesiologists. All surgeons operating on our patients have 15 to 30 years of experience, specialize in soft tissue surgeries, and do not perform more than 2 surgeries a day. Please fill out the QUESTIONNAIRE so we can calculate the cost of treatment for you, conduct a preliminary consultation, and prepare a plan for your trip to South Korea for surgery.
How to prepare for lip plastic surgery in South Korea
-
Fast from food and water for 8 hours before the procedure. Take a shower.
-
Avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen (including medications like Advil or Motrin), and other drugs that may increase the risk of excessive bleeding for 2 weeks before the surgery. Tylenol is prohibited only for 3 days before the surgery.
-
Do not smoke, including hookah and electronic cigarettes. Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and can slow down the tissue healing process. If you smoke, the doctor may recommend quitting smoking before the surgery. Some doctors refuse to perform surgery on smokers due to the high risk of complications. Avoid being near smoking relatives and friends or in public places designated for smoking.
-
Review your medical history. Be prepared to answer questions about current and past illnesses, as well as any recent medications you have taken. Please do not hide this information from the surgeon and coordinators.
-
Visit the surgeon for a consultation and show them photos of your desired results.
-
If you have had tests done less than a month ago, you can bring them with you. If not, we will conduct all necessary tests in Korea.
-
Ask someone to drive you to the clinic or help you after the surgery if you plan to arrive by car.
-
Place items near your bed that you may need during your recovery, such as lip balm, water, a chocolate bar, or your mobile phone.
What to expect before and after cosmetic aurgery
Before undergoing cosmetic surgery, you will go through a thorough preparation process. This includes at least two consultations with your surgeon and the necessary medical tests to ensure your eligibility for the procedure. On the morning of the surgery, the surgeon will mark your face, address any questions you may have, and hand you over to the medical coordinator. You will be taken to a preoperative area where your condition will be assessed, including your last intake of food and water.
Subsequently, you will be escorted to the operating room, where you will be assisted in lying on the operating table. Your hands and feet will be secured to prevent involuntary movements during the surgery, and a catheter will be inserted into your hand to administer medications and anesthesia. Once the anesthesiologist puts you to sleep, the surgeon will begin the procedure, involving small incisions, excess skin removal, and sutures.
After the surgery, special silicone tapes will be applied to your lips to aid in faster healing. You will wake up in a recovery room, where medical staff will attend to you.
What to expect after surgery
After the surgery, a translator or medical nurses will wake you up and assist you in moving to your recovery room. Most patients do not remember this moment due to the effects of anesthesia. In the first 10-20 minutes after waking up, you may experience shivering, which will quickly subside. A warm mattress will be provided on your bed to make you more comfortable during this period. Some level of discomfort may persist due to the use of pain-relieving injections and medications during the surgery. You may also notice swelling of your face, which is a normal part of the body’s healing process. You may experience dryness of the lips; be sure to use healing and moisturizing ointment regularly.
You will remain in the clinic for several hours after the surgery, with a catheter in your hand for medication administration. In the evening, the coordinator and medical nurses will check your condition. If you do not experience symptoms such as dizziness and nausea, you will be prepared for discharge, which includes changing clothes, receiving medications, and post-operative instructions.
After discharge, some patients may experience increased pain, but taking the prescribed pain relievers will help. You may also have a mild headache, and your eyes or nose may swell. These are normal symptoms, so do not be alarmed and continue to follow the rehabilitation guidelines. By the end of the week, you will start looking much better. Try to walk as much as possible and continue sleeping with your head elevated. After 7 days, the surgeon will remove the sutures, and by this time, most of the swelling and bruising will have subsided, allowing you to return to your regular life.
Rehabilitation process and post-operative procedures:
Immediately after the procedure: your face will have medical tapes, and you may experience moderate discomfort. You will spend several hours under medical supervision in the clinic. Your face will start to swell, and unfortunately, you will have to tolerate this discomfort for several days.
Days 1-2: Swelling will reach its peak, spreading across your entire face. This is normal, so continue to follow the rehabilitation guidelines.
Days 3-7: Swelling gradually begins to subside. The surgeon monitors tissue healing, and medical nurses remove the tapes. Avoid sports and any activities that involve bending your head down. Continue to sleep with your head elevated.
Days 7-14: Sutures are removed, swelling decreases, and discomfort disappears. You can slowly return to your normal life. Regular extended walks are recommended for faster recovery. Do not smoke for 25-30 days after the operation to prevent infection. Vaping, hookah, and other forms of smoking are strictly prohibited. If you experience additional swelling due to breaking these rules, immediately contact the coordinator and do not hide the reason for the infection.
Days 14-21: Continue to avoid intense workouts and physical activities. Follow rehabilitation rules, do not smoke, and avoid alcohol. Swelling and bruises diminish to the point where they are not noticeable to others.
Days 21-30: Your face may still swell occasionally, depending on which side you slept on, and it may shift from left to right every day. Do not be alarmed; this is normal. Be patient and wait for the results.
Days 31-60: Swelling almost completely disappears, and you forget about the surgery. You can start exercising, laughing, and using facial expressions actively. You can bathe in the sea, perform regular exercises, and lead a normal life. During this period, your face may still swell in the mornings, especially after consuming alcohol, but do not worry; the final swelling will subside a year after the surgery.
1 Year After Surgery: Complete the rehabilitation process.

Before & After

Step 1: Fill out the QUESTIONNAIRE
First and foremost, you need to fill out a form. This will help us and the surgeons better understand your expectations and review your medical history. In the form, be sure to provide your personal information, details about any previous surgeries, and your current health condition. Unfortunately, patients with HIV infection are not eligible for plastic surgeries in Korea.
Step 2: Attach photos
Attaching photos of the areas of your body or face that you would like to have corrected is a crucial step. This allows us to make a preliminary cost estimate and direct you to a specialist who can address your concerns.
Step 3: Submit and wait for confirmation
After submitting the form and photos, your application will be reviewed, and we will contact you to confirm details and schedule a consultation.
Step 4: Prepare for the consultation
Prepare a list of questions you would like to ask the coordinator and surgeon during the consultation. We recommend bringing a phone with notes or a notepad to help you stay organized and obtain all the information you need. Additionally, you can always ask any questions you have in a personal chat created for discussing the details of your trip.
