Buttock surgery

Buttock surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at changing the shape and size of the buttocks. It can include several types of operations such as buttock augmentation using implants or autologous fat transfer (lipofilling or BBL), buttock lift to improve their contour and eliminate skin sagging, or a combination of these methods. The goal of buttock surgery is to achieve a more attractive, rounded, and lifted shape, which increases self-confidence and satisfaction with one’s body. Depending on the method of surgery and the individual characteristics of the patient, the recovery period and method of anesthesia may vary.

Usually, we recommend lipofilling to our patients – it is the safest, most modern, and natural method of surgery, which allows for detailed filling of all areas lacking volume.

Why do patients consider buttock surgery?

Sagging buttocks or a lack of volume in this area create a multitude of difficulties: from challenges in choosing clothing to the inability to wear open lingerie and visit beaches and pools in the summer.

Who is the surgery suitable for?

Buttock surgery may be a suitable option for the following categories of people:

  • Those seeking body contour improvements: If you naturally have flat or small buttocks and want to improve their volume and shape, buttock surgery can be an effective solution.

  • After significant weight loss: People who have lost significant weight and face volume loss in the buttocks area may consider buttock surgery to restore a rounder and tighter shape.

  • To correct asymmetry: If you have natural asymmetry of the buttocks or it occurred as a result of injury, surgery can help achieve a more symmetrical appearance.

  • Age-related changes: As we age, the skin loses elasticity, and the buttocks may begin to sag. In such cases, buttock surgery can help restore a more youthful appearance.

  • For those working in the sports industry: A large percentage of patients who come for buttock surgery work as fitness trainers or fitness models.

It’s important to remember that ideal candidates for this procedure should be in good overall health, not have serious chronic diseases that can affect the healing process, and have realistic expectations of the surgery results.

Why South Korea?

South Korea conducts more cosmetic procedures and operations than any other country in the world each year. Local doctors are considered the most educated and competitive globally, as only 0.01% of medical school graduates can become plastic surgeons here. The equipment and medical technology in Korea are on par with the quality of the USA and Germany, putting it in the top 3 countries with the best technical equipment in clinics.

All buttock surgery operations are performed in accredited clinics, which have permission to work with foreign patients and staff anesthesiologists. All surgeons operating on our patients have 15 to 30 years of experience, specialize in soft tissue work, and do not operate on more than 2 patients per day. How to prepare for surgery in South Korea

  • Refrain from eating and drinking for 10 hours before the procedure. Take a shower.

  • Avoid taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen (including drugs like Advil or Motrin), and other medications that may increase the risk of heavy bleeding for 2 weeks before surgery. Tylenol is only prohibited for 3 days before the operation.

  • Do not smoke, including hookah and electronic cigarettes. Smoking reduces blood flow to the skin and can slow down the healing process of tissues. If you smoke, the doctor will recommend quitting before surgery. Some doctors refuse to perform surgery on smoking patients due to the high risk of complications. It’s unsafe to be around smoking family members and friends or in public smoking areas.

  • Review your medical history. Be prepared to answer questions about current and past illnesses, as well as any surgeries you have undergone. Tell about any medications you are or have recently taken. Please do not withhold this information from the surgeon and coordinators.

  • Have a check-up with the surgeon and show them photos of your desired results.

  • If you had tests done less than a month ago, you can bring them with you. Otherwise, we will conduct all necessary tests in Korea.

  • Ask someone to drive you to the clinic or help you after the operation if you plan to come by car.

  • Place items near your bed that may be needed during rest, such as lip balm, water, a bar of chocolate, or a mobile phone.

Surgery process

  • Before the operation, a consultation is conducted where the patient and surgeon discuss the details of the operation. At the end of the consultation, the surgeon marks the body according to where the incision or addition of fatty tissue will be made.

  • On the operating table, preparation begins – the patient’s arms and legs are secured with straps to reduce the likelihood of movement during surgery, a catheter is installed, and devices for measuring pressure. After disinfection and treatment of the operation area, anesthesia is administered, an oxygen mask is put on the face (for surgery methods under general anesthesia), and sleep follows.

  • After the operation, the patient is awakened and escorted to the ward.

What to expect after surgery

  • After the operation, nurses wake you up and help you move to the ward. Most patients do not remember this moment and feel as if they woke up already in a warm bed – this is how anesthesia works.

  • In the first 10-20 minutes after waking up, you may feel chills, but this will pass quickly. A warming mattress on your bed will make this period more comfortable. There will be practically no pain sensations, as they are dulled by painkillers and medications used during the operation. But you may feel how your body swells – this is how the body begins to recover.

  • You will stay in the clinic for several more hours after the operation, with a catheter in your arm and medications entering your blood. After the IV ends and the catheter is removed, the coordinator and nurses will check your condition. If there are no symptoms like dizziness and nausea, you can prepare for discharge: get dressed, collect medicines and postoperative recommendations.

  • For several days after surgery, the operated area will swell, the skin under medical dressings or compression garments will begin to itch, and bruises may appear – all these are normal symptoms, so you need to be patient and wait.

  • You can return to everyday activities 4-5 days after the operation.

Recovery process and procedures after buttock plastic surgery

Immediately after the procedure: Pain is almost nonexistent in the first few hours, you may only feel discomfort when moving and shifting your body. Stay in the ward and rest.

Day 1-2: The body begins to swell, you may feel pain similar to muscle soreness. If there are no symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or dizziness, you are discharged from the clinic. Remember that for the first 2-4 weeks after surgery, it is not recommended to sit on your buttocks: we strongly advise our patients to even sleep on their stomachs to avoid possible complications.

Days 3-7: The swelling begins to subside. It can move down the body, from the buttocks to the upper part of the legs, or even to the knee area. All this is a normal regeneration process.

Days 7-14: Decrease in swelling, disappearance of possible hematomas, return to normal life. On the 14th day after the operation, the surgeon removes the stitches. Regular long walks are recommended for faster recovery. Don’t forget to apply healing ointment to dissolve the stitches, soon the fact of surgery will become unnoticeable.

Days 14-21: Most patients can perform daily activities without discomfort. It is still advised to avoid intense workouts and physical exercises. The stitches start to fade.

Days 21-30: The body is still swelling, especially in the mornings. The buttocks may look different and asymmetrical every day, depending on how your body shifted during sleep. This is normal and will soon pass.

Days 31-60: The remnants of swelling gradually subside, symmetry is restored, the buttocks take their permanent position and shape.

Days 60-90: You can swim in the sea and sunbathe, sit on your buttocks, but it is not recommended to squeeze them tightly or rub them actively against seats or a bed.

1 year after surgery: Full completion of rehabilitation.
